Almost, not quite, officially confirmed
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has announced three
cast members for the X-Files sequel movie. Rapper Xzibit, who was to appear in
Oliver Stone's "Pinkville" with Bruce Willis, and Amanda Peet, who
played Jordan McDeere on the short-lived Aaron Sorkin TV series Studio 60, have
signed on. Scottish comedian Billy Connolly, who was in "Lemony Snicket's A Series
of Unfortunate Events," has also been cast.
The casting hasn't yet been officially confirmed, although
Reuters did pick up the story, along with a lot of entertainment news sites.
Twentieth Century Fox hasn't revealed what roles the actors will play -- as
usual, anything to do with the X-Files sequel is being handled with a secrecy
that would impress the Cigarette Smoking Man. Last week there were rumors of
two new FBI agents joining the cast, but that turned out to be based on casting sides that
were pages from episodes from the TV series. But maybe the new FBI agent characters are real after all.
Rumor roundup (as in who knows if it's true or not): the website
X-Files Ultimate picked up on buzz that Timothy Olyphant, from the HBO series Deadwood and currently starring in "Hitman," might be in
the sequel.
What we know for sure, is that X-Files 2 starts filming in
Vancouver this month, and releases July 25, 2008 in the U.S. Series creator
Chris Carter co-wrote the script with Frank Spotnitz, and will also
direct. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny return as Agents Scully and Mulder.
