Jim Samples has resigned as the executive Vice President and general manager of Cartoon Network, taking responsbility for last week's publicity stunt, reports Variety.
The viral marketing campaign for [adult swim]'s Aqua Teen Hunger Force stopped the city of Boston in its track last week, as police and authorities vastly overreacted to the presence of dozens of small LED devices around the city, which included the city's bomb squad detonating one of the "Lite Brite"-like toys.

Samples said in a press statement, "I feel compelled to step down, effective immediately, in recognition of the gravity of the situation that occurred under my watch."

No word has been given as to an interim head for CN, although the network's senior executives will be reporting to Mark Lazarus, President of parent corporation Turner Entertainment Group, which has already agreed to pay out $2 million in costs and damages from the bomb scare that wasn't.
