Put down that Sam/Bumblebee slash! David Hasselhoff is returning to Knight Rider, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Hasselhoff, 55, played Michael Knight, a cop turned automotive vigilante in the campy 1980s series. Previous reports said he had not been approached for the latest remake, but now he's "in talks" with the producers to reprise his role. The new series stars Justin Bruening as Knight's heretofore unknown son, Mike Tracer.
Tracer's ex-girlfriend Sarah Kamen (the newly-cast Deanna Russo) turns out to be the daughter of the man who originally invented KITT. Sarah and KITT are trying to track down her missing (and estranged) father, and she wants Tracer's help. Sydney Poitier plays a "feisty FBI agent" who doesn't like Tracer. If this doesn't have classic "romantic triangle" written all over it, I'll kiss the talking car.
Speaking of the car, no word yet on whether or not William Daniels will be reprising his role as the snarky vehicle, but since he was the real star of the show, here's hoping.
