It was up against Life on Mars (series two) and New Tricks (series four). The award is shared by Chris Chibnall, Paul Cornell, Russell T. Davies, Stephen Greenhorn, Steven Moffat, Helen Raynor and Gareth Roberts and was accepted by Paul Cornell, Steven Moffat, Gareth Roberts and Stephen Greenhorn.
The "Time Crash" special crossover episode of Doctor Who for the Children in Need special helped bring in 10.9 million viewers, with another 2.5 million watching a later repeat of Time Crash alone. Children In Need's webpage is still open for donations, although non-Brits have reported that the credit card page will not accept a non-UK postal code. No problems have been reported for paypal donations to Children in Need.
