Canadian and American fans of Doctor Who were saddened to find that instead of the promised commentary by David Tennant, John Barrowman, and Freema Agyeman for the episode "Last of the Time Lords," the commentary actually added to the Region 1 DVD boxset was the one by Russell T Davis, Julie Gardner, and Phil Collinson, which has been available for free download direct from the BBC website since shortly after the episode aired in Britain. Although the BBC has not yet made an official comment, one fan has reported that he did hear back from the company 2|Entertain, which told him that the stars' commentary "could not be cleared" and thus instead of future copies of the box set containing the Tennant/Barrowman/Agyeman comments, the liner notes would be changed to read "Davis, Gardner, and Collinson.
"
Although the exact nature of what could not be cleared or what it could not be cleared by is unknown, rumors are that it is either David and John singing "Dueling Banjos" or their making derogatory comments about President Bush.
On the more cheerful news, the new official website for Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones of Torchwood) announces that he will be appearing at Memorabilia in Birmingham next weekend, on the 24th and 25th of November.
Also making an appearance soon is a new set of Doctor Who models from Airfix. Freema Agyeman's fan site has a picture of the kit, which includes a Tenth Doctor, TARDIS with light effects, and a stunning Martha Jones. This should soon be joining the range of Doctor Who and Sarah Jane merchandise that is already flooding into British stores.
For those who cannot wait for their Doctor or Martha fix, the BBC's Official Doctor Who site has created a new page of print-and-color posters of the Doctor, Martha, and assorted baddies.

It's a little late for the BBC to change the liner notes for those of us who bought the region 1 DVDs in good faith. What are they going to do, ship us new notes? Not only is it an incredibly stupid idea worth of American companies, it’s going to take the sting out paying for content I didn’t get. I want the content I paid for, not the equivalent of white out applied to the packaging.
People who have multi-region DVDs could have ordered the region 2 DVDs but saw no reason to as the BBC mislabeled the packages and implied the content was the same. Once they knew there was an error they made no effort to correct this prior to the ship date. What I want to know is why, if the BBC knew ahead of time that items wouldn't clear, didn't they change the liner notes and update merchants to the change? Why didn't they let us know that we wouldn't be getting the same content so we could find out before we opened the packages and order the proper DVD set?

It's a real shame that a box set that's already so expensive had essentially false advertising for content. Had I known this, I would have bought the Region 2 set instead.
Having heard the REAL commentary through the grace of friends overseas, I'm astounded that this caused such a problem (well, no... not with the Bush statement, thanks to our wonderful leaders).
The lack of the real commentary is a big disappointment, because it was BY FAR the best one on the box set.

The rumored explanation of no commentary doesn't really hold water. First off, comentary can be easily edited. If the BBC was upset with anything said, they can take it out. It wouldn't be the first time there has been several seconds of silence on a commentary track. Second, as there are no words to words to "dueling banjos" and if David and John made up their own words, so what. Again, editing. Lastly, as for Bush Bashing, has the BBC never seen the John Stewart show? LOL President Bush is routinely lambasted in the press and the public here in the US, it's part of that whole freedom of speech thing and few would stop watching a TV show because an actor slagged the guy. he's routinely slagged by entertainers here, so really, it's not a big deal. It's not like John and David said they like to drown cute fuzzy kittens in their spare time <g> and it's not like 8 year olds listen to commentary a whole lot.
It sounds like the BBC went all PC rather than just let common sense prevail. That's just a total marketing blunder.
