Kate Beckinsale has signed to star in "Whiteout," an action thriller based on Greg Rucka's 1999 Eisner Award-winning comic miniseries. Dominic Sena will direct the film, the first full-length feature for Joel Silver's Dark Castle Productions. Principal photography is expected to begin next month in Montreal.

"Whiteout" is the tale of U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Beckinsale) who is assigned to Antarctica, a cold assignment that helps her forget her troubled past. When the continent's first murder is committed shortly before deadly winter sets in, Stetko must solve the crime before she is stranded in the darkness with the killer.
