Tonight is all about the Trek casting news. Building off this morning's announcement that Winona Ryder will be playing Spock's mother, the rumor earlier tonight what that Chris Hemsworth had been cast as Sarek (dear old Dad).  However, IESB has just gotten word that in fact Hemsworth has been cast as Kirk's dad, George Samuel Kirk Sr.  According to the site, when Abrams et al saw his read-through, they offered him the role "on the spot.
"

Our earlier story also mentioned Jennifer Morrison and suggested she might be the next Janice Rand.  Well, tonight's speculation is that she's playing a young Carol Marcus, the brilliant biologist whom Kirk knocked up circa the time period we're looking at for the film.

Let's go back to the parents for a minute.  Winona Ryder?  Chris Hemsworth?  These are pretty young folks to be casting.  Hemsworth is barely twenty-four.  Will there be additional flashbacks?  Did IESB get the wrong name and Hemsworth will actually play Kirk's brother Sam?  How old was Amanda when Spock was born?  These questions and more we will surely be addressing in the days to come.
