Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, in an astounding lack of understanding regarding his own career, called the current WGA strike "stupid," reports Reuters.  Eisner made his remarks at a panel discussion sponsored by Dow Jones & Co. Inc. and Nielsen.

Eisner said, "I've seen stupid strikes, I've seen less stupid strikes ... This is a stupid strike.  It's a waste of their time.  [The studios] have nothing to give. They don't know what to give."

If Mr. Eisner means what he says, then a show of good faith is in order.  Perhaps he can also convince the Walt Disney Company that a creator once paid for the initial creation, does not deserve to reap any additional rewards from the original creation.

  I'm sure they'd be happy to release the long-overdue rights from a silly little B&W cartoon called "Steamboat Willie" and of course the associated characters.  After all, the creator was paid for them, and he's even dead now.

To once again quote Mark Evanier:  "The issues here are really pretty simple and you don't have to have an MBA understanding of DVD revenues or a futurist's insight into the evolving Internet market to grasp them. Our old contract has expired. Management has offered us a new and lousy contract that would increase their already-immense profits by taking money out of our pockets in many ways. We don't want the rollbacks. In fact, we think gains are appropriate at this time. We have been given two choices: Take the bad offer or strike. We choose to strike."

In related news, The Office star Steve Carell has thrown in his support with the striking writers, and has been calling in to work with a case of what he calls "enlarged balls."  Production on the series has halted.
