In a truly awesome bit of perfect casting, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is officially going to play Black Adam in the Captain Marvel movie.  Johnson told SciFi Wire that he actually approached the role after encouragement from fans at ComicCon.

Johnson said, "[T]alking to those fans down there, they had talked up to me about, you know, 'There's also this great character called Black Adam.'  I said, 'Oh, really? Tell me about it.' And they were telling me all about it. And I got some more history about Black Adam, and I just found Black Adam, just for me personally, more interesting to play. He's really a badass character. I love that."

Johnson will also be taking a major role in the upcoming redo of "Escape to Witch Mountain."

"It's going to be a great badass action comedy," Johnson said. "That's why they call it a re-imagining and not a remake because they are going to completely amp things up in a major way.
It will be set in Vegas, and I’ll be a cab driver and for me, you always think of movies like that, action comedies… It's all about the collision of two worlds. My world, I play an Ex Con and my relationships or lack there of only lasts my fares. So you get in and need to be taken down to the end of the strip, you get out $8 later, that’s the extent of every relationship I have.... Now these children get in my cab, and they are on the run immediately, and the chase happens within the first 15 minutes, and we’re off to the races. And that collision is these children who are being chased by your area 51 police, if you will, and then the Vegas police. And it turns into huge chase. It's great." In other DC-related casting news, Alaina Huffman is going to play the role of Black Canary in at least one upcoming epsiode of Smallville.  Huffman (also known as Alaina Kalanj) is best known to genre fans from her role as Maureen Bowers on Painkiller Jane.  The episode of Smallvlle she'll appear in is appropirately entitled "Siren," though with the writer's strike and everything else, no one knows when we'll see it.
