Warner Bros. has announced that Shawn Levy will direct the upcoming feature film based on DC Comics character The Flash, says
the Hollywood Reporter. Levy's most recent project was the box-office hit "Night at the Museum," which has already brought in $225 million for the studio. Departing the project is David Goyer, who also wrote "Batman Begins" for Warner and helped successfully relaunch the mega-franchise. Goyer's script is rumored to have gone in a similarly dark fashion as "Batman Begins" and fellow DC Comics adaptation "Superman Returns." Execs at Warner have already stated that they don't intend "The Flash" to be as dark, although they have also stated that it will not be a comedy.
The Flash family is one of the best-known legacies in comics. Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West and Bart Allen have all bourne the name (all but Garrick have also worn the snazzy red pajamas). In the '90's, CBS attempted to bring The Flash to television, with a short-run series featuring Barry. Smallville has introduced Bart as another live-action Flash. In the toonverse, Wally has appeared in both Justice League and Teen Titans. As script details become public, fans will find out who will be picked as the big-screen speedster.
