Greg Berlanti will be directing the famous green spandex/ring combination, according to
Variety. Now for the real question on everyone's mind: who will it be?
Variety and
The Hollywood Reporter are talking Hal Jordan, the Silver Age test-pilot who became an icon. However, the Lantern in the JLA movie is going to be John Stewart (who's well-known to the kid audience due to the animated
Justice League Unlimited), and while the Flash movie was just announced this weekend to definitely be in continuity with the "League" film, we're not sure about this one just yet. WB is notoriously gunshy of having multiple incarnations of the same character in live properties (see the so-called Bat and Aqua Embargoes) but is at the same time allowing three, maybe even four versions of Superman to run around.
The skinny on the GL movie: Berlanti (best known for his work on
Everwood,
Brothers and Sisters, and
Dirty Sexy Money) will help with the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green, both comics writers. Donald De Line and Andrew Haas will produce.
Berlanti said: "To me, this was on the last great comic book movie that hasn't been made. It was a comic book with a real mythology that you would see in a lot of the space operas and the sci-fi books. The best part about it, anybody can be become one of the Green Lanterns because anyone can end up with that ring."
In related (and disappointing though not surprising) news, the Wonder Woman film is in a permanent holding pattern. Producer Joel Silver said at a press conference for "Fred Claus" that: "They're going to make the Justice League movie, and we're kind of pausing on Wonder Woman now." Wondy will be a big part of the JLA film, he said. "And if that comes together, Wonder Woman will be a part of that story. And then we'll see where we go from there. But we struggled with it for a while. I hope that we can solve it and make it one day."
