I've had Mary Dreams' painting of Dumbledore and Harry "
The Cave" bookmarked for several months because it is truly one of my favorite Harry Potter fan art images. Mary makes very lovely use of light and shadow, creating a mysterious, spooky feel. The style is realistic and the characters are instantly recognizable. Too, the connection between them -- mentor and student -- is very clear.
On the fan fic side of today's recs, I'm giving a nod to, of all improbable crossovers, a meeting of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and M*A*S*H.
Shoveling by PaBurke works
beautifully. After the end of season seven, the Slayers set a house up next to the home of an elderly -- but nowhere near helpless -- Hawkeye. Hawkeye becomes involved with the girls when one of the Slayers is injured in a fight.
I will say that this is probably one of the better crossovers I've read in a long time. Everyone is in character, it makes sense, there's a perfect amount of snark and sarcasm, and a satisfying ending. Well done.
