William Shatner, not content with making a video to announce his non-presence in the new Trek film, has started kvetching to the Associated Press. Several reports from the production staff, including director J.J. Abrams, have denied Shatner has any involvement in the film, which stars Chris Pine as Kirk this time around. He'll be joined by Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Anton Yelchin as Chekhov, John Cho as Sulu, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as McCoy, and Eric Bana as the Bad Guy.
In his trademark deadpan, Shatner told the AP, "I couldn't believe it. I'm not in the movie at all. Leonard, God bless his heart, is in, but not me. I thought, what a decision to make, since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office. It didn't seem to be a wise business decision.
"
As usual, the more fervent the denial, the more fans are speculating that Abrams and Shatner have something up their sleeves. Not just a denial, but a video? Not just a video, but an interview too? Yeah.
In other Trek news, the folks at Screenrant may have uncovered the actual plot of the film, which has been kept tightly locked away. Last chance to look away from the potential spoilers, people.
La la la la.
Okay, according to an anonymous tipster, the movie will focus mostly on Spock as he works with Captain Christopher Pike (who will NOT be played by Tom Cruise). Kirk shows up later in the film as a supporting character. The Academy will not play a role in the film, despite early rumors.
So it is true? Who knows? Speculate amongst yourselves.
