Universal Pictures has snapped up the rights to a yet-unpublished manuscript for a young adult novel titled Simon Bloom, the Gravity Keeper, says the Hollywood Reporter. The live-action film deal is rumored to be in the seven-figure range.

The manuscript is the first for writer Reisman, who works as a script reader for Nickelodeon. Simon Bloom is an eleven-year-old who, with his two best friends, discovers a mysterious physics book that allows them to change the physical properties of the world. (James Doohan fans, please feel free to offer your best Scotty impressions here.) Future installments of the book series will incorporate other sciences.

The novel is due to be published in August by Penguin, conveniently just after the end of a certain famous fantasy series about a boy who discovers magic when he is eleven.
