Will Ferrell is going to headline yet another dip in the nostalgia pool, starring as a disgraced paleontologist in Universal's remake of classic Sid and Marty Krofft series Land of the Lost.  (Fans of Kevin Smith's work will recall Ferrell's role in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" as Marshal Willenholly, a reference to the original series.)  The studio has greenlit $100 million for this undertaking, which has been adapted by Chris Henchy (Entourage, Life With Bonnie) and Dennis McNicholas (Saturday Night Live).

In not even remotely brighter news, "Thundercats" has found a director.  Jerry O'Flaherty, better known for his work on "Gears of War" and "Unreal Tournament 3," is taking the big chair for the CG-animated project.  O'Flaherty will cowrite the script with Paul Sopocy (who delivered the first draft).  The film focuses on Lion-O's journey to adulthood as he leads the last survivors of his people from their dying world.  The lead villains from the cartoon will show up; O'Flaherty says he plans to remain faithful to the original series.  Small favors: the Thundarians may not start the series naked this time.
