An advertising campaign for Cartoon Network's "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" went horribly awry today, nearly shutting down the city of Boston over a mistaken bomb threat.  Turner Broadcasting has already spologized for the incident, featuring magnetic blinking signs all over ten cities --- including Boston --- which individuals and police mistook for bombs.

The Boston City bomb squad detonated at least one of the devices before the advertising scheme (read: prank) was revealed.

Roads and bridges were closed all over Boston and the surrounding areas, no picnic in a city regularly listed as having the worst traffic in the country.  The first suspicious package was found around 8 a.m. EST Wednesday on Interstate 93.  The busy highway was closed during the peak of the morning commute so police could investigate the unusual item (a lighted box shaped like the character Err from ATHF).  The package, as well as the other packages placed around the city and elsewhere, was later determined to be harmless.

Whether the stunt will boost ratings of the offbeat series or raise an outcry for its cancellation in our hyper-paranoid, color-coded  terror alert country remains to be seen.
