There has long been a debate about whether Poltergeist should be considered a Tobe Hooper (director) or a Steven Spielberg (producer) picture.

  Although it may not fit the historical facts, I prefer to think of the movie as the most intriguing kind of collaborative hybrid—the unexpected product of two basically dissimilar sensibilities finding a point of intersection and running with it.  At least that’s what it looks like up there on the screen.

In any case, here’s to hoping that the success of this event will spur others…

…that is, is it too early to wonder if Universal will plan a special pre-Halloween screening of Psycho three years from now in honor of its golden anniversary?
