After weeks of speculation, George Miller has officially signed on to direct the upcoming "Justice League" film. According to E! Online, Miller has been given a green light to start filming in Australia (Miller's home and the home of his best-known flicks "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome" and both "Babe" movies). The goal is to complete principal photography well in advance of the strike, which all signs point to coming next July. If casting finishes and filming gets in gear, the movie should be at a theatre near you circa 2009, just in time for fans to get over their excitement from "The Dark Knight."
Speaking of Batman films, director Christopher Nolan (aka He Who Resurrected the Franchise) is not on board with the speeded-up schedule. He has gone on record saying he doesn't want the new project to dilute the Batman brand.
Star Christian Bale already said he's not involved, and told IESB, "I feel that it would be better if it comes out after 'Batman 3.'" The folks who are attached to the project, like Ryan Reynolds ("Van Wilder," "Blade 3") are playing coy and almost everyone is keeping mum about the final roster. Best guesses are Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, the Flash, and Aquaman, though I've heard mutters of a Green Lantern appearance (and arguments over which Lantern it ought to be -- my vote's for John Stewart, because he worked extremely well for the animated 'verse). No word on Green Arrow (who's got his own big-screen feature "SuperMax" in development) and all indications are saying no Martian Manhunter.

An unnamed source close to the project told Variety: "They're working very hard to get it to happen. But there are so many characters, it's complicated."
