To, who’s been described as the busiest of Hong Kong’s filmmakers, is riding a string of popular and critical international successes that include the “Election” series.  In addition to starring in hit period dramas and straight-ahead action films, Chow has graced numerous crime thrillers on both sides of the Pacific.

No details about the story, production schedule, or planned release date have been announced regarding this high-octane collaboration.  However, writing the script is versatile veteran Wai Ka-Fai.

He penned To’s terrific 2001 film Full-Time Killer and directed/wrote the Chow vehicle The Peace Hotel (1995).

Apparently to make room in his schedule for this project, To has postponed his remake of Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Cercle Rouge (1970).

This last bit of news actually leaves me feeling conflicted.  As his career progresses, To often seems to be channeling Melville’s distinctively cold and precise sensibility—one could not hope for a better fit in terms of remaking the French thriller-master’s work.
