The main plotline was handled better than I thought it would be, especially considering the heavy-handed (if funny) opening seminar. Jack trying and failing to come onto Jo was priceless, as was "Sheriff Grabass." The slow growth of Jack's attractiveness was funny without being over the top until the very end "Happy place! Happy place!". The fight between the two women over Jack was predictable, but mercifully short, and the rest were not painfully bad. Thank goodness Zoey didn't appear at all, is all I'm saying.
"Dr. Mole" and the Missus were better characters than I was expecting. I love it when they cast actors who actually look like the real people in my world. Taggert was his oddball self, though in an ep with him, Jo and Zane, we sadly so no interactions between him and them. Good arcing with Jo and Zane, and I love how her character is still continuing to be revealed. (Jack's "I feel like such a guy," and her response, "Me too." Very poignant and right for her.) Lot of relationship stuff in this one, including the classic: "Marriage is like a paladium-lined geothermal heating system." Words to live by.
The explosion quotient was reasonable this time out. I never say no to exploding toilets, and poor Vincent! I hope he gets good insurance rates underwritten by GD. The overactive gland idea worked as well as could be expected, and while there was the standard (by now) twist to the end, the spores still tied into the Taggert-wolf plot, however coincidentally, so yay. (Poor Fred.) I'm amused that it was Henry's asthma meds that saved the day, mostly because now I'm picturing him as a nerdy ten year old with an inhaler.
I'm still weirded out by the Stark/Alison/Kevin subplot. I'm almost certain Stark is using Alison's fears over Kevin to manipulate her into giving him what he wants. But the character dynamics are so well-done that I'm not positive, and I like that. With Alison's and Stark's wants bumping headlong into Henry's investigation, things are about to get messy. Will Carter prove Beverly's link to Kim's death and also get his memories back? Will Henry see Stark's seizure of his research as that final betrayal that sends him over the edge? We've got two weeks left to wrap up things before the break (or two weeks left to screw them up and leave us on a cliffhanger).
Next week: Daniel Jackson turns things to gold.
