Supernatural Fans Raise Funds for Charities
Over the labor day weekend, Fandom Rocks, an initiative run by fans of the CW TV series Supernatural, delivered a check for $1,023.11 to the Lawrence Community Shelter in Lawrence, KS, hometown of the show's two main characters, Sam and Dean Winchester. Organizer Dana Stodgel made a road trip from her home in Illinois to present the shelter with the check, which was made up of contributions from fans of the series. The site's first campaign consisted of donations from 70 fans in over 11 countries, and raised a total of $2046.11. The other $1,023.11 goes to the international charity SOS Children's Villages, which gives care and protection to neglected, abandoned, or orphaned children.

From the campaign's official site: "Fandom Rocks would like to thank everyone from the community who attended the ceremony — board members, shelter staff and guests, and neighborhood residents."

Campaign #2 is already under way; the chosen charities are the Lawrence Humane Society and the Semper Fi Fund, which offers financial assistance to injured Marines and their families. Following in the footsteps of fan-run charity efforts in such fandoms as Buffy, Firefly, and Veronica Mars, the goal of Fandom Rocks is to unite fans of Supernatural in raising money for charities in Lawrence and all over the world.
