Popular UK series Doctor Who is coming back next season, but the next season won't be airing until 2010.  The BBC reports that star David Tennant is going to appear with the Royal Shakespeare Company next year, portraying Hamlet.  To accommodate his scheduling needs, the series will have a full season, and then next year, broadcast three specials penned by showrunner Russell T Davies.
The show returns in 2010, though there's been no confirmation on who will be playing the Doctor or who his companion(s) will be.

Jane Tranter, BBC Fiction controller, said, "Doctor Who is one of the BBC's best loved and most successful dramas. Its journey over the past three series has been one of the most ambitious and exciting that we have had, and I'm delighted to be able to confirm not only three exciting specials for 2009, but a fifth series in 2010."
