Another Dune? That's the rumor going around this week. Over on the Dune Novels forum, Byron Merritt (a relative of author Frank Herbert) has been chatting up the prospects of another movie.  Last week, the word came out that a third attempt at filming the epic might be in the works.

Merritt said, "Although only rumor, I've heard that 'someone' at the studio wants Dune reallllly bad and has been a fan of the novel for 'years.

' They're not saying who this is (and it might just be hype) but I'm holding out hope that whoever this might be is a big enough fan that he/she will do the book justice. Supposedly it's some director."

The question is, does the world really need a third "Dune" adaptation?  Many (most) fans hated the David Lynch film, and while the SciFi Channel's adaptation was closer to form, there is simply no good way to capture the vast political machinations going on in the background, along with the heavy internal monologues and mysticism.
