ABC has been plugging away at marketing new genre show Pushing Daisies. With television ads not sufficient, commercials for the series have shown up in movie theatres and on the radio. Last week, ABC held a screening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Santa Monica Boulevard.
Marla Provencio, executive vice president of ABC Entertainment, said, "Events like this help us to generate significant word of mouth around a series and, when you have the quality of Pushing Daisies, we believe this screening will add another dimension to our marketing strategy and help us to drive audiences to the premiere on the network."
Why is this noteworthy? Pushing Daisies has a lot of genre credit.
Bryan Fuller (Heroes) and Barry Sonnenfeld ("Men in Black") exec produce the show, which is about a man named Ned (Lee Pace) who has the power to resurrect the dead. The catch is that if he touches them twice, they're dead for good. When he brings back his childhood sweetheart, the show gets Unresolved Sexual Tension (UST) written in big, golden letters all over it. Anna Friel, Chi McBride (The Nine), Ellen Greene (Little Shop of Horrors), Swoosie Kurtz, and Kristin Chenoweth (The West Wing) also star.
In other Freshman series news, apparently the CW is advertising Reaper via a drink recipe. If anyone can get hold of this recipe, let the rest of us know.
