Matthew Vaughn is helming the new "Thor" film, according to Variety. The comics character, recently seen in animated form, is coming to life via Mark Protosevich's script for Marvel Studios. The company is hoping to start production before the writers' strike that's looming this fall. Dr. Donald Blake, a partially disabled medical student, discovers his scret identity: a Norse thunder god sent to Midgard (Earth) to protect humanity.
Wielding his mighty hammer Mjollnir, he fights for your right to party. (Er, not really but you get the idea.)
The comics character originally appeared in 1962 as a Lee/Kirby creation. Stan Lee said in hi autobiography: "I wanted to come up with something totally different. I thought it would fun to invent someone as powerful as, or perhaps even more powerful than, the Incredible Hulk. But how do you make someone stronger than the strongest human? It finally came to me: Don't make him human — make him a god."
