Can't Stop the Serenity, a fan-run event to celebrate Joss Whedon's birthday and raise money for  Equality Now, has raised more than $100,000.  Screenings of "Serenity" were held around the world near June 23rd, Joss Whedon's birthday.  The last screenings have finished up and as of tonight, the total is $106,165.69, six thouand dollars above this year's goal.

The proceeds are going to Equality Now, an international organization dedicated to improving the conditions of women and girls around the globe.  The group works with government agencies and private inidividuals, dealing with issues such as domestic violence, rape, genital mutilation, and the sex trade.  Whedon has been an outspoken supporter of women's rights for some time, and believes in the work that Equality Now is performing.
