Two more movie tidbits for the evening: casting for Dr. Manhattan in "Watchmen" and a timeframe for production on the Man of Steel. Over on
CHUD.com, an inside source has said that director Zack Snyder has settled on actor Billy Crudup for the role of Dr. Manhattan. Crudup has appeared in "Mission Impossible III," "Big Fish," "Almost Famous," and voiced Ashitaka in the English-language dub of "Princess Mononoke."
The next Supermovie was going to be back-burnered behind Bryan Singer's work on "The Mayor of Castro Street. IESB asked a few inside sources about the timing, and they responded: “That’s total horse s---, I would say the same thing if I was producing that film but don’t you realize that most of the Superman producers are working with Bryan on [Tom Cruise WWII film] Valkyrie? Gil Adler and Chris Lee both are in Germany with Bryan and I can guarantee you that there is some work being done with Superman right now.”
Finally, we've got links to the trailer for the least-talked about movie coming up next year. The title "Cloverfield" is apparently the internal production name, but it's that or "1/18/08," which is the release date. Producer J.J. Abrams is behind the film, with "Buffy," "Lost" and "Alias" alum Drew Goddard writing the script and Matt Reeves directing. A monster is attacking New York and events are on the home videos of a group of young people caught up in the mess.
