William Shatner, whose overacting became a byword for the early Trek franchise, will probably not be heading back into space for the newest film, according to the New York Post. According to an unnamed insider, Shatner "has been lobbying for a role" and "is very upset.
" The reason for his annoyance? Fellow Trek alum Leonard Nimoy has been offered a cameo.
Larry Thompson, Shatner's manager, said, "I don't know that to be the case, so I can't comment."
The plot of the as-yet-untitled film revolves around a young James T. Kirk at Starfleet Academy and his first meetings with Spock and probably several others in Trek lore. J.J. Abrams is directing the film, which is due out Christmas 2008.
