The Hollywood Reporter says Fox Searchlight has bought the worldwide rights to
Waitress, the last movie directed by Adrienne Shelly. The movie stars Keri Russell ("Felicity,"
Mission: Impossible III) as a poor Southern woman trapped in a bad marriage until a new gynecologist played by Nathan Fillion ("Firefly",
Serenity) moves to town. The film also stars Jeremy Sisto ("Six Feet Under," "Kidnapped"), Cheryl Hines ("Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Father of the Pride") and Andy Griffith ("Matlock," "The Andy Griffith Show").
Shelly was an actress, writer and director whose career was cut short last November when she was found murdered in her New York apartment. A 19 year old construction worker later confessed to the crime, saying he'd had an argument with Shelly and allegedly attempted to make her death look like a suicide.
