Ron Moore and David Eick have confirmed earlier rumors that season four will end Battlestar Galactica's critically-acclaimed run on SciFi, according to Variety.  Last month, Katee Sackhoff and Edward Olmos had said in an interview that they suspected they were filming the end, but the producers had denied it, claiming they had more ideas to develop.  This was perhaps an overstatement.

"This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and, finally, an end," Moore and Eick said in a joint statement. "Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms.

"

"We have always known that Ron and David had a plan for Galactica," said SciFi exec VP of original programming Mark Stern.

SciFi has stood by the show despite mediocre ratings, mainly because of the fantastic reviews BSG has received from critics and fans alike.  By allowing the producers to make the announcement -- and at least giving the appearance of having a say in the decision -- they may be avoiding a repeat of the fallout from Farscape's cancellation.  (Some fans of my acquaintance still spit when they say Bonnie Hammer's name.)  As it is, the fandom appears to be split given the events of the season finale, and with seven months to go until the beginning of season four, that's a lot of time for fans to give up on a series.  The producers have said they intend to end the show "with a bang."  If it involves more Dylan songs, the bang may very well be the door hitting them on the bottoms on their way out.
