Variety reports that Columbia Pictures has started negotiations with David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Zathura) to pen the next installment in the smash movie franchise based on the SPIDER-MAN comics.   Koepp previously wrote the screenplay for the first Spider-Man movie, launching the Marvel character into cinematic success.

The first two Spidey movies have grossed over $1 billion worldwide.  The third movie, starring Tobey Macguire, Kirsten Dunst, Thomas Haden Church ("Ned and Stacey", Tombstone), and Topher Grace ("That 70's Show") will premiere on May 4.

Koepp recently wrote a draft for a proposed fourth Indiana Jones project, which is creating buzz that Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas will finally reteam for the franchise.
