No, not Deathly Hallows. The film "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is going to premiere on July 11. According to a WB press release issued today, the film will come out on Wednesday instead of the previously-announced Friday.  The film will likely cut into the box office totals for "Transformers," which opens the prior Wednesday (although Transformers director Michael Bay has been lobbying for a Tuesday release).  Add to this the Thursday opening this past weekend of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," and there's a trend forming.
Production companies are learning that, despite the higher availability of audiences on Friday nights, fans will line up for a work (or school) night release, if only to avoid the real crowds on the weekends.  Plus, an opening earlier in the week is almost guaranteed to pull business away from a competing film, and in the cut-throat establishment of the summer tentpoles, a million dollars here and there means bragging rights for months.

What do you think?  Are you more likely to attend a movie on a weekend or an early viewing on a weeknight?
