We've got casting news from the Zack Snyder adaptation of Alan Moore's "Watchmen." Ain't It Cool News and MTV.com have been chatting up Gerard Butler and the "Watchmen" staff.  Butler has been attached in name only to the project for a while as a potential followup to "300."  However, the role is looking less and less likely.

Said Butler, "We've been talking about ['Watchmen'] for awhile, but [Zack's] never told me a character and to be honest, now I'm looking a little bit picked up ... I don't know if 'Watchmen' is going to be happening."

That said, offers have already been extended to three actors for parts in the pic.  Patrick Wilson (who co-starred with Butler in "The Phantom of the Opera") has been offered the role of Nite Owl.  Comics aficionado Keanu Reeves is ready to sign for Dr. Manhattan.  Meanwhile, long-time "Watchman" fanboy Jude Law is almost certainly going to play Ozymandias.

Shooting begins this November in Vancouver for a 2008 release.
