Feeling trapped by the ennui of his life, Bart earns his way to an amazing cruise for the entire family. But when their time at sea comes to an end, he pulls a dirty trick to keep them afloat forever – never realizing his short-sighted prank might result in shipwide chaos.

A pretty darn good episode, “A Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again” features a vintage portrayal of Bart (committing short-sighted, impulsive actions and not realizing it's going to cost the family in the long run; actually doing something practical to get the vacation he wants and, in the end, doing it all because he cares about his family).

Maybe his thinking of how happy the rest of the family felt a tad more touched with the feelings of others than Bart tends to usually be, but it makes sense that he’d notice everyone else’s happiness while he’s following his own bliss.

The very accurate parody of the behemoth cruiseline industry worked and was also wonderful.I liked the Cruise director's false-joviality and how there was already a social hierarchy on the ship before the Simpsons arrived. His sense of superiority over the vacationers morphing into despotism once the liner was marooned at sea was a nice touch, and ever so-much-better than the 'The Simpsons enter a foreign culture and deliberately/accidentally screw it up and THIS IS OKAY’ plots that have been getting since The Simpsons Versus Australia.

A few moments laid it on too thick ("OCEAN SEX RULES!!!", Lisa growing weak-kneed over the diversity of her cabinmates to the point of insensitive parody of her sensitive awareness of the differences of others), but mostly everyone felt spot-on, and the entire episode proved a pleasant diversion, even with the inclusion of an ending that felt just this side of trying too hard.
