Kredit Kookies: Flyby: Krusty and Sideshow Mel fail a mid-air pas de dux.

When Bart wins a viral marketing party from Krusty the Klown, Homer’s charming performance leads to his being promoted to accounts, where the soul-crushing greyness and demanding nature of the job quietly get to him and consume his time.Meanwhile, Lisa tries to help Bart improve his reading skills.

This is yet another Simpsons episode that falls squarely in the middle of the pack when it comes to quality. While the Mad Men parody was occasionally funny, it might have strove for brilliant, and instead went for broad strokes of humor when more pointed observations might have been made.

It refused to let the heartwarming moments build into something truly touching, instead deciding to nullify them with quick little jabs and sarcastic jokes.Yet the jokes the show used were funny ones; melancholy Homer was perfectly pitched, and watching him try to satisfy everyone felt like a posi-verse version of Homer Versus Dignity (AKA the infamous panda episode) .

Meanwhile, the Bart/Lisa subplot was perfectly pitched, with a classic solution. But it was given a short shrift, and really could have used a few more segments to make it pop.

Again there was a fear of honest sentiment and even black humor – which the show used to be entrenched in.A mixed bag, but a funny one to sit through.Watch with medium-sized expectations and you’ll ultimately be pleased.
