Buffy alum and Dexter current Julie Benz has snagged a choice role as the female lead in Sylvester Stallone's new film 'John Rambo,' according to Variety. The newest installment in the series finds Rambo protecting a group of missionaries performing humanitarian relief work in Burma; Benz will almost certainly be playing one of the missionaries, which is funny for the Whedon fans.
Stallone is directing from a script by Art Monterastelli and Kevin Bernhardt. Filming has already begun in Thailand, looking for a release in May of 2008 up against "Speed Racer" and "Indiana Jones," among others.
Most fans reading this will probably recognize Benz from her work as Darla, Angel's sire in the Buffyverse and the doomed mother of his son. She's been doing great work on Dexter and has otherwise done the rounds on the current fannish and genre series such as Supernatural and NCIS.
