VIZ Media is planning to launch its 2010 publishing season with a single-volume manga, not simple. In celebration of the new story, VIZ is premiering the prologue chapter on its SigIKKI.com website, which features inventive and compelling titles in the manga world. The not simple manga itself is rated "T+" for older teens.

The story follows the travels of a young man named Ian, whose family has been fractured. He seeks to reunite with the sister he loves, and journeys from Australia to England, and then to the United States as he searches for the love of family and a place in the world. His story is followed by a reporter named Jim, who gradually unravels it backwards as he tries to capture Ian’s experiences.

Gonzolo Ferreyra, Vice President Sales & Marketing at VIZ, is quite excited about the release of not simple. He enthuses about the manga’s "unconventional story and artwork," explaining that "Natsume Ono’s art blends manga aesthetics with a graphic style reminiscent of many western indie and alternative comics.
" He says he expects that people who enjoy both of these genres will enjoy not simple.

The manga was created by Natsume Ono, a woman who is known for her more sophisticated stories intended for mature readers (the type of story known as seinen manga). She first appeared on the scene in 2003 with her web comic La Quinta Camera. Since then she has created not simple, Ristorante Paradiso (which was made into an animated television series in 2009), and GENTE. Her current work, published in the Japanese IKKI magazine, is Saraiya Goyou (or House of Five Leaves), an action drama set in the Edo era of Japan and following samurai during the Shogun’s rule.

The prologue chapter of not simple debuted on SigIKKI.com on December 17, 2009. The manga itself is published by the VIZ Signature imprint, at the recommended price of $14.99 in the United States, and $19.99 in Canada.
