FUNimation and Cybergraphix have signed a distribution agreement for "Guardians of Luna"
The story in the
Guardians of Luna animated film, which is currently in development, revolves around an ancient race of shape-shifters who are able to change into powerful creatures. At this time in history, though, a ruthless mogul has begun to threaten an ancestral power source belonging to this once-great race. As a result, four rather unlikely descendants of the race have been given the responsibility to act as protectors for this power source.
The development of this action anime has been entrusted to story editor Michael Reaves, who previously worked on series such as
Batman: The Animated Series,
Gargoyles, and
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He is joined by Cindy H. Yamauchi as character designer. Her previous work has already been seen in
Naruto: The Movie,
Black Lagoon, and
Akira.
FUNimation has chosen the California-based animation and entertainment group,
Cybergraphix Animation, to release the film upon completion. Avi Melman, Executive Producer and also the CEO of Cybergraphix, is pleased with the new agreement between the two companies. "We have always sought to build strong partnerships for our productions," he says. "Having FUNimation as a partner will help build a strong distribution network and ultimately, increased exposure for Guardians of Luna."
The animation work itself will begin some time in 2010 and will be performed by
APPP Co. Ltd., whose previous work includes
Robot Carnival and
Fist of the North Star: Toki-den. And in addition to the film work, a manga series is also being created. Fans can currently visit the
Guardians of Luna website that has just been launched, and can put their email addresses on a mailing list for informational updates. As developments connected to the film get underway in earnest, this site will become very busy, featuring behind-the-scenes content, cast and crew information, and other exclusive media.
This year is only just winding down, and already FUNimation is getting revved up for lots of interesting development and new entertainment ventures in the new year!
