Adele did know about the chief's alcoholism.. can't remember which episode but when Adele says she knew about the chief's affair with Ellis she says something about having to pick up all the pieces when he became alcoholic after the affair ended. it is referred to over the seasons as well, the chief has a patient come in who was a friend of his from AA meetings and they talk about it then. also when derek is in the woods in season 5 after killing that patient the chief says "you've been drunk for a few days, i was drunk for years" acknowledging his alcoholism. great article tho! :)

Thank you for mentioning that. I totally missed those past references to Richard's alcoholism in the past seasons. But when he sat down with Thatcher this season it finally sunk in that Richard had a battle with the bottle once, too. I hope this means more Adele, then. I adore her character so it will be great to see her again. Thanks, again, for the fact finding.
