Chris Columbus, who directed the first two 'Harry Potter' films, is in negotiations to direct Fox 2000's "The Lightning Thief," according to the Hollywood Reporter. The fantasy is based on Rick Riordan's series "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," about a boy who goes to summer camp and discovers he's a demigod.
(We at Firefox are setting our stopwatches for the first "This one time, at god camp ... " quote.) Along the way, he mets the standard contingent of wacky friends, including a satyr named Grover and Athena's daughter [sic] Annabeth, helps in a war among the gods, and tried to find his father. The evil Titan Lord Kronos stands in his way. In short, this won't be much of a departure if Columbus does land the gig. The third book in the series, The Titan's Curse is set to be released on May 1st.
