Playbill has announced a casting call for a "Spider-Man" musical, once again proving the old adage that anything sounds silly with "the Musical!" attached to the end of the phrase. Glen Berger and Julie Taymor will provide the book for Taymor's direction, while music will be provided by U2's Bono and The Edge.
The roles still needing to be filled include Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson, Norman Osborne, J. Jonah Jameson, and a new villain called Arachne. We will not speak of the so-called "Geek Chorus." We just won't.
Rehearsals start July 2.
As an exercise to the reader, please think up as many silly Spidey-based song lyrics as you can in the comments. I'll be over here doing more "Modern Major General" parodies.
