Ms. Cody's amazing knack for creating unforgettable characters and dialogue is just what's needed for the emotional, interpersonal explorations planned for Episode Seven. A source close to Lucas Films intimates that, "George Lucas is no longer interested in making action movies, or creating platforms to sell action figures, and Happy Meals. He wants to go deeper, to truly understand how characters like Han Solo develop meaningful personal relationships. After Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Lucas has become fascinated with revealing the sentimental side of his heroes."

According to other sources, Ms. Cody successfully pitched taking the series in a whole new direction focusing on how Han Solo and Princess Leia's children fit in as "Rebkids" -children of former rebels, while living on a planet of former "EE's" -evil empire loyalists.

The adult characters will also face inner turmoil: after Han is reduced to running a flying school for former "rebels without a job," Leia finds herself less and less attracted to Han and begins to question her sexual orientation. Meanwhile, Uncle Luke, struggles with his celebrity status, and the annoying ghosts of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Anakin Skywalker, who are constantly telling him what to do.

Reportedly, Ms. Cody is eager to bring her unique voice to the Star Wars series. Others in the industry are disappointed. One prominent insider had this to say, "George Lucas is known for the subtlety of his character development and dialogue. How could Ms. Cody possibly improve on the master?"

Diablo Cody intially burst onto the scene with her academy-award winning original script Juno. Currently she is a columnist for Entertainment Weekly and writer and executive producer of the acclaimed Showtime series The United States of Tara.
