Hank tries to settle an old score with his football rivals, only to end up with a broken nose and a complex in this week’s episode of King of the Hill, “Bwah My Nose”
RECAP: Every year, on the anniversary of Arlen’s defeat at state, the living members of the Mustangs head to Arlen to taunt Hank and the gang. Fed up with the ritual, Hank decides to declare a rematch for bragging rights.
An enthusiastic practice scrimmage results in Bill accidentally breaking Hank’s nose. Hank ultimately has corrective surgery to fix the break, and he becomes vainly proud of his slightly adjusted nose with its now-perfect left nostril. When he heads back into practice he becomes paranoid over the idea of breaking his shnozz again; ultimately, he’s replaced on the team by Dale, who panics whenever someone throws him a ball.
Hank goes into denial and tries to avoid playing in the game without admitting he’s afraid to injure his nose, nearly choosing to go duvet shopping with Peggy and Bobby on game day. Arlen is nearly trounced in the conflict, until Hank shows up and saves the day, winning back the trophy and allowing his team to taunt their adversaries.
REVIEW: A deeply flawed episode. I can’t imagine Hank ever putting up with such invasive taunting for so many years before finally deciding to handle things in his typically Hank-like way. The one positive in the situation was Peggy’s spitfire nature.
I also felt that Hank’s nature wouldn’t allow for such a vainglorious reaction to a simple tweak to his flawed left nostril. The funniest line actually belonged to Bobby, who, upon seeing Hank’s broken nose, wondered “am I gonna have to beat up someone’s son?”
This show needs Cotton Hill, and the brief flashback to Arlen’s trip to state and his ranting at a vulnerable Hank only proves it.
It’s worth noting that Principal Moss seems to have regained his position, barring the notion of “No Bobby Left Behind” airing out of order.
RATINGS: “Bwah My Nose” was the lowest-rated episode of the Sunday night block, drawing a 4.92.
NEXT EPISODE: The next new episode of King of the Hill set to air is entitled “Uncool Customer”, and will air on March fifteenth. Check back here on the sixteenth for a full recap!
