The final remains of Star Trek actor James Doohan will be launched into space later this month, according to CNN. The rocket will be launched on April 28th, and will carry a few grams of ash each from about 200 people. The $495 price tag might seem a little steep to some families, but others find it the most appropriate disposition of a small portion of their loved ones' earthly remains.
The company behind all this is Celestis, a Texas-based enterprise that contracts with rocket firms.

Doohan's career began in the early 1950's, but was permanently defined by his role as Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott on the original Star Trek. Doohan never again stepped out from the shadow of the character or the Trek legacy, and eventually made peace with that, becoming a popular guest at conventions. He struggled with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, and eventually succumbed to pneumonia in July 2005.
