View all articles by Melissa WilsonDoohan's career began in the early 1950's, but was permanently defined by his role as Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott on the original Star Trek. Doohan never again stepped out from the shadow of the character or the Trek legacy, and eventually made peace with that, becoming a popular guest at conventions. He struggled with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, and eventually succumbed to pneumonia in July 2005.
