Fans of gone-but-not-forgotten series Firefly are once again putting action to words by sponsoring "Can't Stop the Serenity," screenings of the "Serenity" movie to benefit Joss Whedon's favorite charity, Equality Now. Browncoats worldwide are organizing screenings and looking for volunteers to organize more. In 2006, screenings were held in 47 cities and raised over $65,000. This year's goal is to screen the film at more than 50 theatres on or around June 23rd, which is Whedon's birthday, with a hope of raising over $100,000 for Equality Now.

An up-to-date list of participating cities can be found at Can't Stop the Serenity.

Equality Now works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure. The issues Equality Now addresses include female genital mutilation, women's rights in Third World countries and suffrage in the Middle East.

Amanda Sullivan, Women's Action Network Director of Equality Now, said, "All of us at Equality Now continue to be amazed by and grateful for the Browncoats' and Serenity fans' generous and committed support for our work. Their energy and enthusiasm is inspiring and these screenings are coming at a critical time when we are especially in need of funds! We thank each and every one of them."
