As reported earlier by Firefox news, The British Ministry of Defense (MOD) has been de-classifying documents and transferring them to the national archives.  Amongst the documents are several accounts of close encounters.

The most recently declassified of these documents includes a report of a 1957 encounter between two F-86 fighter pilots and a UFO.

The report gives a detailed account from one of the jet pilots, Milton Torres (now a retiree living in Florida).  According to Torres, he was given an order to open fire on the UFO prior to taking off, if he could, and to keep his superiors updated on the UFO's movements.

“That never happened before,” Torres said.

Torres said that the UFO hovered for quite some time before taking off at an estimated speed of 7,600 mph.

Torres also said that, during a subsequent debriefing, he was told never to speak of the incident.

The encounter, which took place during the height of the Cold War, may have been a secret government experiment.  Or it may have been a close encounter.  The documents offer no explanation.

Other reports that have been declassified include eyewitness reports of UFO's including flashing lights and dark objects.  One letter, sent by a woman who claimed to be an Amazon Warrior from the planet Spectra, stated that the British Government had recovered her crashed space ship, and requested that it be returned to her.   (Not so ironically, the children's cartoon, Rainbow Brite, introduced a diamond-planet named Spectra in 1985, just five years before the letter was sent.  One wonders if perhaps the Amazon Warrior had seen that show.)

Though most reports were noted without response, credible reports, including several from commercial airline pilots, were thoroughly investigated.
