Where We Left Off
The death of Patrick’s wife has been written off as an accident, albeit a suspicious one.
Letitia was arrested for the murder of Nick’s dad, Dutch - her lover and the father of her child, Brian.
What’s Resolved
Who's the mysterious hottie (Lucy Liu) distracting Jeremy Darling from Nick’s wife, Lisa?
She’s the prosecutor making the case against Letitia Darling. She apparently likes to get it on with people involved in her cases because it makes winning more challening. She needs the challenge because she’s just that good. I don’t know how a lawyer can be that good and this stupid. Even though outing her would have her dismissed from the case, Jeremy instead uses the opportunity to get her back in the sack. One track mind, this Jeremy kid. If we don’t find out that he’s wearing a wire, I’m going to hate him.
Where is missing twin Juliet?
She’s “off on some island” – apparently not destined to come back even for the death of her sister-in-law. Fortunately, her character’s complete lack of depth makes this completely realistic.
What’s New
Nick plans the funeral for Patrick’s wife and chooses a successor to Letitia’s position in the company from the field of siblings.
Karen is desperate for the job. Her boyfriend, competing mogul Simon Elder, uses the opportunity to further drive a wedge between Karen and Nick when he doesn't select her.
Brian orchestrates a dismissal of the family lawyer so Nick is forced to take over for Letitia's defense. Nick is impresed by Brian’s loyalty to the family and recommends him as Letitia’s replacement. He confides his trust in Brian during their brief prison stint for roughhousing a cop who was trying to arrest Letitia at the funeral. Unfortunately, Tripp overrides the choice and appoints Nick as Chair.
Nick and Lisa alternately want to solve their problems by having a baby. Not therapy. A Baby. These are the most well educated idiots on television. (The least well educated idiot is Peter Petrelli in Heroes.) Fortunately, they never seem to be in sync on the decision.
Random Guest Star
Kenny G as the musical guest as the funeral.
Best Dialogue Exchange
Brian: Your whole life we’ve treated you like a friggin’ prince.
Nick: A prince? I’m the cleanup crew, Brian. I’m the guy who clears your tickets, plans your funerals and calls Kenny G. On occasion, I’m invited to sit at the main table but that’s just until somebody drops their plate and I’m sent to fetch a mop.
Brian: Well, that’s what family is. We’re all expendable until we’re needed. At least you get paid for it.
Brian had a doozy to choose from including his regular line of insults but it was this moment that sums up the entire show. Its an insightful reveal into his character, the family dynamic, and his love-hate relationship with Nick. It showcases him as a complete ass but makes him simultaneously sympathetic. Good job, writers!
Moment of Whaaa?
Brian confides that he thinks Tripp actually murdered Nick's father, Dutch. Nick is on the case!
