Are the Heroes destined to split into the Good Guys and the Bad Guys?
Maybe it was me but this episode was a little on the dark side with a touch of the X-Men and the Matrix thrown in. Most of the episode was concentrated on the future (4 years ahead) where the Heroes are split into the good guys and the bad guys fighting against one another. It made for good viewing but it was still a touch darker than we are used to.
After the really weird episode from last week, it was good to finally get back to some credible storylines though although the ending left a LOT to be desired (I won't tell you the ending though - I'll leave it for you to see for yourself). It was one of those endings where you think to yourself, "OK ... I want to see how they explain THAT one next week!"
The episode starts off in Doctor Zimmerman's house where Tracy has come to visit to find out answers about her origins. He tells her she was part of triplets -- Tracy, Niki and Pamela. So that must mean that Niki from seasons 1 and 2 must have been created in a lab too but who is Pamela? Does she have special powers too and will we get to see her sometime?
But as I said, the main thrust of the episode was the 4 years into the future. The present Peter goes into the future with the future Peter (the one with the mean looking scar across his face) and they see flying men and all sorts of future looking stuff. But then one of the Heroes (I won't say who) comes shooting. The action moves to Clare's old house where UNBELIEVABLY Sylar is now a good guy with a kid (!) and the bad heroes come looking for Peter. One thing leads to another and Sylar is provoked back to his old ways, leading to a nuclear explosion which nukes the neighborhood and kind of affects the property prices in the neighborhood for the next 200 years or so.
Parkman is having a whale of a time in the meantime. He's out in the desert, tripping like crazy on paste. This sends him on a timetrip to the same period 4 years in the future to New York. He sees his future with Daphne the Speedster and Molly and his future is intertwined with Peter, Clare and the bad heroes and what goes on with Sylar.
And what about our Japanese comic duo? They're in the cells after tangling with the Haitian in Berlin and true to form, Hiro is looking to escape. So he's on Ando's shoulders trying to pull the ventilation shaft open. Those two are like a pair of circus clowns on LSD. Needless to say, the escape fails but Mrs Petrelli soon recruits them to find the missing piece of valuable paper because in the wrong hands, it is very damaging to the company. Maybe having those two out there is damaging to the company?
Mohinder meanwhile is losing more skin than a chronic dandruff sufferer and he is developing a severe aggression problem which isn't helping his relationship with Maya. It's obvious that the DNA that he injected into himself is having some really serious side effects but what can he do now? He doesn't want to admit that he has screwed up so he covers himself up and gets on with the research. But we later see him 4 years down the line and it's obvious that he is badly disfigured and disabled, a Gollum-like figure. Which goes to prove the saying, "Be careful what you wish for."
This episode was fantastic -- MUCH better than last week's -- and I am much relieved to see that the writing and plot is back on track. Although I am apprehensive about the ending and I am hoping that the writers have figured out a credible way to explain it without going too far "out there." I can only hope.
