I am a 30-something professional writer, blogger and editor. Originally from Scotland and now living the ex-pat life in Würzburg, Germany. I have been writing for over 20 years and have worked for newspapers and appeared on BBC television and radio. Now internet is the new medium and I am still feeling my way around. Manic depressive obsessive tea drinker, obsessive internet surfer with Monty Python-type sense of humour. Best taken in small doses. Consult your pharmacist before visiting.
View all articles by Mark O'NeillMrs Petrelli, who is getting more and more scary each time we see her, stomps into Nathan Petrelli's apartment. By now we know that this is not the "present" Nathan but the "future" Nathan, the "slightly evil" Nathan. But when it comes to evil and nasty stares, Mama wins hands down, don't you think? She starts snarling likes an alley cat and tells evil Nathan all about the butterfly effect and about messing with time. That if he starts changing things, he could put people he cares about in danger -- such as Claire.
Then we come to a really weird part of the episode. Mohinder must have been on too much caffeine that morning because he decided he wanted some of the hero juice for himself! He injected himself with the DNA and now he feels great. He's crawling up walls like Spiderman, doing somersaults, you name it -- then he throws Maya over a table and has his way with her. Wow! He must have LOTS of energy with that bottle! He should sell the stuff and make a fortune! But later when waking up, he experiences very bad side-effects such as his skin coming off.
But Elle is not having a good day. Her need for Daddy's approval is getting a bit over the top. Her constant whining is grating on my nerves and she is one I wish Sylar would just get rid of. After another screw up, Daddy implied that he had had enough. At long last, Daddy is starting to appeal to me.
But Tracy Strauss -- the governor's assistant -- has problems! I still don't know if this is Niki or Jessica but a reporter has decided it's Niki and he has the videotape of her and Nathan in Las Vegas in the hotel room in bed together -- which is a HUGE problem if Petrelli becomes Senator Petrelli. Tracy/Niki/Jessica threatens the reporter with dire consequences if he publishes and she races off in her nice sports car.
Hiro meanwhile has found the Speedster thanks to some expensive Japanese detectives -- which he can afford probably! So he and Ando do the squeezy eye thing and they are suddenly in her apartment in Paris -- where they find the Mona Lisa! The Speedster's real name is Daphne (I prefer Speedster though - don't you?!) and when she turns up, she's obviously surprised to see the two guys standing there in her den of crime. Hiro has a medal which belongs to her and he proposes a trade -- the medal for the paper. She snatches the medal and runs off -- but she doesn't realise that Hiro has put a GPS tracking device on the medal. They track her to Berlin -- cue squeezy eyes again.
Nathan takes the Senate job -- provided Tracy/Niki/Jessica goes on his staff. One question though -- what name will she go by? I'm convinced she's Jessica because when that reporter shows up again later, she demonstrates her abilities with reporters by touching him and turning him into ICE! Now if turning him into ice isn't evil, I don't know what is...
Daddy Bob meanwhile has finally met his match at the hands of Sylar and the lunatic inmates are escaping the asylum. Elle finally does the one smart thing in her life and releases HRG and gives him a gun. But Sylar is waiting. Gunshots are no good but what finally puts him down is a HUGE electrical shock from Elle! Good to know that Sylar has one weak spot in his armour!
Ando finally finds out about Hiro's trip to the future and his vision of Ando as a criminal who shoots Hiro dead. Can Ando really be bad? Does he really have it in him?
Let's not forget about Parkman who is stuck in Africa. He is found by a black man who speaks English and gives him water. He knows Parkman's name and tells him to follow him. But right away, Parkman is suspicious because this man knows a lot about him. He tells Parkman he has to "spirit walk" and that the future is "not as he painted it".
If all this wasn't enough for one episode, we find out about the pyschos who escaped from the asylum. All dangerous individuals with unique powers -- and one of them has Peter trapped inside his body. HRG is determined to track them down and either recapture them or put them down.
As the episode closes, Sylar is being wheeled into his cell and Mrs Petrelli, who is now the Boss of Bosses of the place, leans over to him and -- well -- I call it my Darth Vader moment!! You'll have to watch it and see for yourself what I mean.
A really fantastic end to the double episode! I can't wait until next week and Episode 3. I can't find anything to fault this episode at all! A great script, great writing, great acting ... let's hope the writers and actors can maintain this level for the entire season.
